In Harm's Way: Toxic Threats to Child Development: a report that educates health providers about the linkages between environmental toxins and development, in order to prevent exposure. Health care providers are uniquely positioned to provide information to parents at critical developmental stages and identify opportunities for intervention.  The routine well-child exam is an ideal time for families to receive information, understand the links between environment and their child’s health, and make changes necessary to minimize exposure. Through providers, information about avoiding exposures to environmental toxins can reach thousands. This program was created by the Physicians for Social Responsibility ( PSR® ), a national organization of over 26,000 physicians, health care professionals and supporters. PSR®, known as "the active conscience of the medical community," was formed in 1961 to address the health consequences of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction. It has since broadened its mission to include the health consequences of environmental pollution and degradation, and also the reduction of violence and its causes. PSR®'s international federation, the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, was awarded the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to translate the abstract concept of nuclear war into medical and personal terms.

Indeno (1,2,3,cd) Pyrene: a toxin found in fossil fuels and occurs ubiquitously in products of incomplete combustion. It has been detected in mainstream cigarette smoke, gasoline engine exhaust, emissions from burning coal, lubricating oils, used motor oils, soils, surface waters, and groundwater at hazardous waste sites.

Institute for Global Communications (IGC): a group formed to manage PeaceNet and the newly acquired EcoNet. EcoNet was the world's first computer network dedicated to environmental preservation and sustainability. ICG played a formative role in bringing advanced communications technologies to grassroots organizations worldwide working for peace, human rights, environmental sustainability, women's rights, conflict resolution and worker rights. Their flagship global computer networks -- PeaceNet, EcoNet, WomensNet, ConflictNet, LaborNet and AntiRacismNet -- became trademark names in the struggle for democratic use of the media and the world's communications infrastructure.

Institute for Laser Dentistry: an institute dedicated to the educational and training needs of the dental professional. Now that dental laser technology has matured, innovative dentists have realized the clinical benefits, and now more than ever there is a clear requirement for quality education specific to dental laser technology and procedures.  The Institute is committed to providing the highest quality of education through a series of comprehensive lectures, hands-on training and one-on-one preceptorship programs. Our primary goal is to deliver meaningful educational programs encompassing qualified research data, clinical examples and business case analysis supporting the safe and effective use of dental laser technology.

Institute of Science: this is an institute that has been engaged in intensive studies involving the monumental works of E.C. Rosenow, head of experimental bacteriology for the Mayo Foundation from 1915-1944. Also their work has centered on analysis, validation and augmentation of Lewis H. Flint's extension of Johannes Kepler's harmonic laws into the realm of solute ions in aqueous (water) solutions, i.e. hydrates, of which every living being is an advanced form. On the more relevant and fundamental level, Flint's work on hydration directly addresses and tremendously advances an area of particular and vital concern to both chemistry and physics, thus providing an important measure of unification.

The International Environmetrics Society: a non-profit organization aimed to foster the development and use of statistical and other quantitative methods in the environmental sciences, environmental engineering and environmental monitoring and protection. To this end, the Society promotes the participation of statisticians, mathematicians, scientists and engineers in the solution of environmental problems and emphasizes the need for collaboration and for clear communication between individuals from different disciplines and between researchers and practitioners. The Society further promotes these objectives by conducting meetings and producing publications, and by encouraging a broad membership of statisticians, mathematicians, engineers, scientists and others interested in furthering the role of statistical and mathematical techniques in service to the environment.

intrafusal muscle spindle fibers: the major sensory organ of muscle is the muscle spindle.  It is an encapsulated distinct structure from the muscle. There are multiple fibers in the capsule of spindle, called intrafusal muscle fibers. This is not to be confused with extrafusal muscle fibers, which are the muscle cells are innervated by  motor neurons and generate a force. Intrafusal muscle fibers are innervated by γ motor neurons and control contraction of the intrafusal fibers. Intrafusal muscle spindle fibers run in parallel with extrafusal muscle fibers. This means that if the extrafusal muscle fibers are stretched, so will the intrafusal muscle fibers.

iodine: a non-metallic trace element, is required by humans for the synthesis of thyroid hormones. Iodine deficiency is an important health problem throughout much of the world. Most of the earth's iodine is found in oceans, and iodine content in the soil varies with region. The older an exposed soil surface, the more likely the iodine has been leached away by erosion. Mountainous regions, such as the Himalayas, the Andes, and the Alps, and flooded river valleys, such as the Ganges, are among the most severely iodine-deficient areas in the world . Its function in the body is spedific to the thyroid.   Iodine is an essential component of the thyroid hormones, triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4), and is therefore essential for normal thyroid function. To meet the body's demand for thyroid hormones, the thyroid gland traps iodine from the blood and incorporates it into thyroid hormones that are stored and released into the circulation when needed.

iodine patch test: a test to see if one is deficient in iodine. Before going to bed, one paints a small square of iodine (the orange colored solution) on the underside of the forearm, abdomen, or inner thigh. In the morning, if the color is gone, it means that the body has pulled the iodine in through the skin; this is indicative that one is iodine deficient. If the color remains all the way until one goes to bed the next day, one is not iodine deficient.

Isopathic Terrain Therapy: in 1916, innovative researchers Dr. Gunther Enderlein began to study remedies that stimulate the bodies ability to heal itself. While studying the bacterium that causes typhus, Enderlein observed something remarkable. Looking at the blood of an infected patient through a special microscope, he watched a tiny structure - one that would normally be invisible, even with the microscope - as it coupled to a typhus bacterium. To Enderlein’s surprise, following the coupling, the bacterium instantly vanished!  Over the next 10 years, Enderlein was able to map the life processes of these special structures and showed how they balance the body’s inner terrain by breaking down potentially disease causing microbes. Building on the work of other leading biologists of the time, Enderlein was able to develop a class of remedy that stimulates the body’s ability to produce these natural healing agents. Since these remedies control harmful growth within their own species, he coined the term isopathic (iso = same, path = pathogen).

It’s All in Your Head: The Link Between Mercury Amalgams and Illness: A book by Dentist Hal A. Huggins who has led the fight to alert the public and health professionals to the dangers of using mercury in the amalgams used to fill teeth. Here he describes his battle with the American Dental Association and the results of his research studies. After explaining mercury toxicity, he describes such conditions as neurological and immunological diseases that can result from this toxicity. His discussion also includes the diagnosis of mercury toxicity and the pros and cons of having mercury amalgam fillings removed. He indicates that there are often no definitive answers in the diagnostic process and that the final proof of mercury toxicity is whether the patient feels better when mercury fillings are removed. A useful if very detailed look at a continuing health controversy.

Itires: isopathic drops that stimulate and detoxify the entire lymphatic system -- a vital part of the immune response -- to help speed excretion of toxins during acute and chronic illnesses. Efficient flow of lymph can prevent stagnation and blockages that increase the chance of new infections. The lymph nodes function like small heart muscles that pump and filter between 1.5 to 2.5 liters of lymphatic fluids, pathogens, toxins and cellular waste products per day, enabling an essential detoxification of the body. Acute and chronic illnesses, as well as internal toxins such as free radicals, can completely overburden the lymphatic system, which then urgently needs support of biological medications to meet this increased toxic load.
